Robust firmware update module
The firmware update module enables embedded Linux devices to be updated in a very robust manner. This module enables updating device firmware over the internet while they are in normal operation mode. It allows for a very short downtime when switching to the updated firmware. A hardware based watchdog is used to monitor the stability of the firmware and user applications. A fallback image allows for disaster recovery so that when the firmware has been compromised, proper firmware is automatically installed again.
Key features
• Fallback image, providing a robust update mechanism
• Ability to update the firmware while the device is in normal operation mode
• Very short downtime when updating the firmware
• Retrieve firmware updates over https/http and FTP
• User programmable firmware update scripts
• Watchdog monitoring the firmware and user applications
System requirements
• Embedded Linux device with Linux operating system
• Ethernet connection
Usage scenarios
• Deploy or upgrade Linux Kernel
• Deploy or upgrade Loadable Kernel Modules
• Deploy or upgrade software applications (e.g. Zigbee Gateway)
• Typically used in conjunction with a 'Firewall bridge for SOAP' to silently and remotely install embedded firmware
